Plasma TVs can be wall-mounted to free up the floor space or can use a stand, often sold separately, depending on your preference. Television signals broadcast in high definition have four to five times as much picture information than a standard television signal. In order to receive HDTV you must have three things:
an HD-ready television set
a decoder (set top box) to receive the HD signals
a TV service offering high-definition programmes
You can't get HD over an aerial, yet, you need to get it through your cable provider such as SKY HD.
Main advantages of Plasma over LCD are:
Larger screen size availability – Plasma screens range from 37" up to 60" (although the choice of LCD TV's up to 50in is growing rapidly).
Better contrast ratio and ability to render deeper blacks.
Better colour accuracy and saturation.
Better motion tracking (little or no motion lag in fast moving images).
Main disadvantages of Plasma over LCD include:
Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images.
Plasma TVs generate more heat than LCDs, due to the need to light of phosphors to create images, and consequently use considerably more power.
Entertainment laptops – designed for playing games, watching DVDs. They are similar to desktop replacements, but tend to have even bigger screens and powerful graphics cards. Most entertainment laptops have wireless connectivity, and a larger memory for storing lots of music, video and images.
Ultra-portables laptops are as compact and light as possible – ideal for business people or anyone who needs computing on the move.
• Processor Where once AMD was making significant inroads into the laptop market, the Intel chips appear to have regained their dominance. Core 2 Duo chips, previously known as Merom. perform well. However, don't dismiss the AMD Mobile Turion, as it bears many of the same hallmarks of Intel's new mobile chips and offers good value for money.
• Memory The minimum offering these days should be 1GB, although many power laptops offer 2GB. The more memory you have, the smoother your laptop will run. You can never have too much - especially if you will be editing music or video.
• If you're buying a desktop-replacement system, go for at least 100GB. If you'll be using it on the road you may not need as much.
• Visuals fo for at least 15in. For DVD-movie playback, 17in widescreen models are perfect. For ultraportables, look to get something no bigger than 14in. If you want to play games or watch DVDs, choose the 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 or one of the GeForce Go 7800 or 7900 cards.
